Street Style with Holley Ebony

I wanted to do a blog post where I could celebrate interesting friends, acquaintances and strangers on the street with a short expose` about what influences their style.

Capturing street fashion is a way to understand style in it's most organic form.  Your style is consciously or unconsciously a self expression and reflection of your self belief - your inner confidence, attitudes and life experiences.  Personal style is a powerful tool in your daily life for transmitting an impression of you, to all you meet!

Amelia, New Regent Street, Christchurch.

What is your day job?

I'm an Electrician.

How would you describe yourself? I'm a mix of introversion and extroversion - I recharge better alone, but enjoy social situations.  I'm a wildly creative sensitive soul who is very logical, practical and am told, very street smart.

How would you describe your style?

My job uniform restricts my style and how I can express myself through clothing, but outside of work, my style is very feminine and structured.  I love Alannah Hill, Annah Stretton and Kate Spade handbags and accessories, I also love my Recycle Boutique finds which I get great bargains for.

What is your advice to the world?

Most people do not listen with the intent to understand, they listen with the intent to reply, this is great advice, by Stephen Covey.   R.Kipling said:  "Words are of course the most powerful drug used by mankind". this holds a lot of truth, we must choose our words wisely.   I also love;  "Don't tell God how big your mountain is, tell your mountain how big your God is".  Respond with love in all situations.  Actions speak louder than words. Acceptance is the most powerful gift you can give yourself. Creativity takes courage, by Henry Matisse.  You can never have too much sparkle in your life, by Amelia Hill and I couldn't agree more.

Andy, Ilam, Christchurch.

What is your day job?

I'm a Structural Engineer, leading a team of Engineers in Christchurch.

How would you describe yourself? A regular guy, who is ambitious and career focused.  My friends would say I love the outdoors and am an adrenaline junkie when it comes to water-sports!

How would you describe your style?

Relaxed, comfortable, modern.  The shirt I'm wearing was custom made in Vietnam. My chinos are by Banana Republic, purchased when I was in Dubai. I like clothing that is interesting and a little bit different, yet understated and always smart.

What is your advice to the world?

Confidence is key and go for what you want in life. You can achieve whatever you want, provided your prepared to put in the required effort, but don't forget to enjoy life along the way.  Be sure to answer for yourself what's important in life, and not to neglect those things such as family and other life priorities.

Betty, Bealey Ave, Christchurch.

I see Betty at least once a week when I stop by Whole Cafe on Bealey for my one and only, Smoothie Bowl with Coconut Yoghurt & no Acai (amazing).  Week after week, Betty would have to be one of the happiest of people that I interact with in daily life.  She is always bubbly to the point of bubbling over, there is never a hint of 'its been a bad day' Betty is so upbeat, so much so, I often think to myself, where is it coming from, I want whatever she's having!  It's inspiring to meet people like this! Betty is fairly unique!

Betty let me take her picture in front of this artwork - which I think is quite amazing with all it's intricate detail. It blends right in with her own Body of Art and I'm told the body of fascinating tattoos happened just after February 2011, when suddenly it was time to 'live without regrets'.

What is your day job?

Whole Cafe Barista

How would you describe yourself?

I'm super excited about life, nerdy in nature, I love shoe-less walks, I love botany and I'm constantly in awe of my natural surroundings.

How would you describe your style?

"90's Seattle grunge + kiwianna, Nirvana & Flannel".  My favourite stores are Tasman Traders, thrift stores that stock vintage and 90's inspired pieces.

What is your advice to the world?

- Choose to be happy

- Eat Well

- Respect life

- Respect Nature

- Be kind to animals

- Loosen up, go with the flow

- Be a good person
